Your Total Guide To business

4 Ways to Save on Office Space

As the world’s way of working takes the spotlight, many companies are making bold changes to their office space and enjoying the reduced costs of maintaining expensive offices. Here are a few ways that your company can save on office space, and in turn save on the high costs of rental.

Outsource Inventory Storage

If you have a reasonable amount of inventory and need at least a moderate amount of warehousing space, you might be able to save money on the rental and the need for a large commercial space if you look at outsourcing your warehousing and inventory storage needs. A company like North West Storage Solutions that offers warehousing and pallet storage facilities might be just what you need. It is likely cheaper to pay for storage when you consider the full end-to-end costs of running your own warehousing facility.

Switch to Hybrid

No matter which way you fall on the remote working debate, having your employees working in the office costs your company money. Not only do you need to provide the space for them to work, but the cost of utilities is often overlooked too. Water, electricity and heating, amongst others, are all expenses that are incurred by maintaining a physical office space. Switching to a hybrid working model and changing your office to a hot-desking setup where your employees are only in the office when needed might help you cut the costs of these utilities, as well as potentially even reduce the physical size of your offices.

Make It More Open

Individual offices certainly have their advantages and will never be able to be removed completely, but they aren’t exactly an efficient use of space. Creating a more open-plan office with either long desks, cubicles or desk pods will help you save a lot of floor space and might even offer a boost in collaboration and teamwork. You’ll probably still want to offer quiet spaces for your staff when they need them but overall, you’re going to save on the need for so much floor space, which comes at a premium. Do consider the impact on the increased noise of this setup though, particularly if your employees are often on the phone with your customers.

Reduce Your Reliance on Parking

If you have a large number of employees and many of them drive into the office every day, you need to provide parking, and this can take up a reasonable amount of space before you even consider the inside of the office building. Examine the cost difference between the cost of having and maintaining your parking space versus what it might cost to cover the cost of public transport or even providing staff transport. You might find that if you incentivise your employees not to drive to the office, you’re not only doing your part to reduce carbon emissions, but it might end up costing less.

Being creative and thinking outside of the box when it comes to making better use of your existing space or finding ways to reduce the amount of space you need will have a noticeable effect on your company’s rental and utility costs.
