The airport has submitted a consultation request to North Somerset Council, proposing to split gate 16 into two separate gates.
The development, which falls under permitted development rights, includes installing a new staircase and lift, enabling the boarding of two flights simultaneously.
The airport aims to improve passenger flow and minimise delays, enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers and airlines.
The addition of the new gate will also help maintain a clear separation between flights that depart at the same time, reducing the risk of passengers being directed to the wrong gate.
This development comes as part of Bristol Airport's broader expansion plans, which will increase its annual capacity from 10 million to 12 million passengers.
The expansion faced initial opposition from North Somerset Council on environmental grounds, but the planning inspectorate later overturned the decision in a costly appeal.
Campaigners subsequently challenged the expansion in the High Court, which ultimately ruled in favor of the airport, allowing the project to move forward.
