Your Total Guide To business

Total Guide to Christmas Party Etiquette

We’ve compiled a few do’s and don’ts to make sure you limit your liquor and resist from blurting out ‘what you'd do with the company if you were in charge’.

Easy On the Alcohol

Ok, first thing’s first, make sure you drink in moderation. We know it’s Christmas but it’s always important to remember your limits. After all it’s probably not going to be worth the hangover or the embarrassment in the office the next day! Remaining sober might seem a bit boring at the time but at least it prevents any alcohol induced mishaps. It may be a party, but it's still a work function.

Avoid the Mistletoe

Secondly, don’t kiss your workmates. You know who we’re talking about! If there’s been sexual tension building in the office for the past few months there's a very good chance it’ll all go down at the Christmas party. So steer clear of mistletoe and keep those hands to yourself, now isn’t the time to see what might develop with your office crush.

Best Behaviour

Thirdly don’t sing, this is one of our personal favourites! We’re sure your colleagues won’t want an impromptu performance of 1984 Wham classic ‘Last Christmas’. Remember what happens at the office party…ends up on Facebook. We’d avoid dancing on pieces of furniture and removing essential items of clothing too.

Talking Points

Don’t talk about yourself too much. We’d just stick to good old fashioned small talk, a drink or two makes people a little more interesting anyway! It’s important to make sure you don't complain about any work related issues either, keep gossiping to a minimum and avoid any negative comments about your colleagues. Also we’d steer clear of sharing any strong political, religious or social opinions.

Dress to Impress

Avoid wearing anything too revealing. Ok, this one’s probably one for the ladies, but that said just because it’s a smart “casual” dress code there’s no excuse to be sloppy guys!  If you're a bit unsure, we’re certain it won’t be too hard to find out what everyone else is wearing. After all girls usually talk about this kind of stuff weeks in advance.

What your Boss Doesn't Want to Hear

Lastly don’t ask your boss for a pay rise. We’d definitely avoid blurting out you hate them, you love them or you want to be them too.
