Your Total Guide To business
Jon, who’s 51, and lives in Devizes, has joined the Wiltshire company as a senior sales executive and will be helping customers find their ideal van – as the firm has more vehicles in stock than any other provider in the UK.
“I’m delighted to be here,” Jon said. “I’m learning the ropes and am thrilled to be one of the team who are the first point of contact for customers looking for high quality used vans.”
Michael Austen, who founded Big Van World 20 years ago, said: “It’s great to have Jon as part of our team. We’ve known each other for many years and I know how much experience he has and his appointment to our senior team is all part of our exciting plans for expansion over the next 48 months. We are aiming for turnover of between £30 and £40m per year at the end of that period.”
Jon was born and brought up in Bristol and originally had a dream of being a lorry driver.
“My parents didn’t think that was a suitable job for someone who had been privately educated,” Jon said. “However I always loved vehicles and I’ve had a career working with Volvo Trucks, Renault and Mercedes to name just a few. When I made the move into vans I really enjoyed the change of pace. Vans are such a crucial part of the British business economy, though people rarely give them a thought. We rely so heavily on them to get around and be successful in business. As a result working for a company where you can get a van on the road ready for work within a matter of days is thrilling and busy.”
Jon joins a growing team of more than 50 employees at Big Van World which is based at Chelworth Park, Cricklade. To aid expansion, a second site nearby has just been purchased. This represents a £2m investment in the future of the business. Big Van World provides vans for trades people as well as fleets for bigger companies and corporations.
