Organic Baby Food Brand Shortlisted for Two Prestigious Nourish Awards

Allergy-friendly baby food producer, Tom Pom Organic, is celebrating early recognition of their organic salmon, sweet potato and pea meal which has been shortlisted for two prestigious Nourish Awards.

Now in its fourth year, the Nourish Awards has built a reputation in the food and beverage industry for being the ‘toughest health food awards in the UK’, with most categories requiring products to be free from gluten, dairy, refined sugars, artificial sweeteners and additives; placing the emphasis not only on taste and texture, but also on nutritional value and quality of ingredients.

This year for the first time, the Nourish Awards is featuring the Nourish Awards Kids and will be the UK’s first health food awards dedicated specifically for products that are created for children. The aim is to encourage, recognise and help growing brands that use less sugar and processed ingredients, providing healthier options for little ones. One of Tom Pom Organic’s products has been shortlisted in the in the Baby & Toddler Food and Free From categories.

The Nourish Awards are recognised nationally and recent galas - prior to the pandemic - were held in Gloucestershire.

The first round of judging this year took place at Ditton Manor, Windsor by a panel of experts from the food industry and the field of nutrition. The experts included Cristina Dimetto, of the Organic Trade Board, Melissa Kuman, known as the Delicious Nutritionist and Tim May of NOSH books. Once the panel had tried, tested and scored over 250 products, the shortlist of finalists for the 4th Nourish Awards was announced on 16th July.

Winners will be announced on 24th September at an award ceremony held via Zoom and hosted by Naomi Devlin, free from food expert, author and chef tutor at River Cottage.

Surrey-based, Tom Pom Organic was launched in late 2020 by Kari Sherman after she had struggled to find suitable food for her second son, Tommy, nicknamed Tom Pom. At nine months old, Tommy was diagnosed with multiple food allergies, particularly to nuts and dairy.

Alongside her partner, Andy, a GP, they created a range of baby food based on NHS dietary guidelines that would satisfy a baby’s nutritional needs, taste buds, and be safe for little ones with food allergies.

Tom Pom Organic offers hand-made purées and meals frozen into rings, so that they can be enjoyed frozen as a teether or defrosted as a meal or snack. They are healthy, nutritious, allergy-friendly and minimally processed.

Kari explained: “Making your family meals using fresh ingredients offers the best nutritional option at mealtime. Tom Pom Organic is hand-made in small batch production runs and we use the same simple processes that you do at home. So when parents don’t have the time to make their baby’s meals, Tom Pom Organic is there – offering freshly frozen, fun mealtime rings.”

Tom Pom Organic has been shortlisted previously at Food Matters Live in 2018 for Best New Food Product, even before Kari launched Tom Pom’s trial range.

“Being a finalist for not one but two Nourish Awards makes all our hard work worthwhile. We believe in our healthy, tasty, high quality, allergy friendly baby food and the need for better healthy eating options for young families.”

Currently Tom Pom Organic can deliver to parents based in all London postcodes. For more information visit https://www.tompomorganic.com
