Your Total Guide To business
TGt Meets The Bristol Nomad
TGt Meets The Bristol Nomad - We talk about how and why he became a photographer and the advice he would give to aspiring photographers.
How long have you lived in Bristol and why did you choose to live here?
Bristolian born and bred, 41 years in the worlds greatest city!
What do you think attracts people to Bristol?
There is such a great vibe about the place. Always something going on, be it the independent food scene, the many festivals, the vibrant night life and music scenes.
Describe Bristol in 3 words…
Vibrant, diverse and beautiful.
Where is your favourite place in Bristol and why?
It would have to be the Avon Gorge and the Suspension Bridge. It's both the iconic image and gateway to our city.
What do you do and why?
Try to portray our city in all its glory, showcasing why it’s such a great place to live, work or visit.
Describe your work in three words.....
Fun, eye opening, passionate.
What is the single most critical talent you possess for what you do?
An eye for the different. Anyone can take a picture of say the suspension bridge, but it’s about always being creative and showing things in a different way. Composition is key.
What advice would you give anyone looking to do the same?
Don’t waste money on expensive kit or online/offline photographer courses. Get out there and teach yourself, learn from your mistakes. There is no substitute for hours spent.
What has been your biggest achievement to date?
Probably having my debut short film Bristol 247.365 displayed on the big screen in Millennium square in the centre of the city for over a month.
Are there any other methods of showing your passion for Bristol that you would want to explore?
I definitely prefer a mixed multimedia approach so more films / exhibitions etc.
Tell us what your next project is and why!
I’d like to showcase more of the individual boroughs of the city, a film for Bristolians by a Bristolian. Showcasing unique areas like Bedminster or St Pauls rather than just showcasing the tourist areas that entice people to the City.
