Your Total Guide To community
The Bristol Bears Community Foundation Bear in Mind programme equips young girls with the tools to build self-confidence and tackles topics including stress management, body confidence, social media awareness and positive relationships.
100% of Bear In Mind participants stated they would recommend the programme to other girls at their school - while 94% reported an increase in physical fitness.
The 12-week programme included 198 girls taking part in a touch rugby festival. Bear In Mind promoted physical activity as a cornerstone of mental and physical health.
84% of girls reported that they used the strategies and tools discussed during the programme to deal with stress while 80% of girls who took part in the programme said Bear In Mind made them feel more confident and positive about themselves.
“Bear in Mind is more than just a programme - it’s a transformative experience for these young women,” said Geraint Lewis, Bear in Mind Programme Manager.
“We’ve seen firsthand how tools for confidence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing can empower girls to face challenges with strength and optimism.
“Seeing 100% of participants recommend this to their peers speaks volumes about the programme’s impact. We’re incredibly proud of what these young women have achieved and look forward to expanding our reach to help even more students in the future.”
Teachers and parents have also noted a transformation in the girls’ attitudes and behaviour through the Bear In Mind programme, which incorporates a mixture of workshop-style classroom-based sessions as well as practical sessions.
One teacher observed a “huge increase in confidence” among the girls who took part in Bear In Mind in the school, especially in their willingness to ask and answer questions, which has positively impacted their learning and peer interactions.
A parent of one participant added: “I’m literally gobsmacked with how much she has changed as a person and how much confidence this programme has given her.”
