BRI Staff Applaud as Recovered Coronavirus Patient Able to Return Home

As people across the country take part in #ClapForCarers every week, staff at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) have been applauding their recovered COVID-19 patients as they leave their ward.

One of these patients is Cherraline Stark who was discharged after spending a total of five weeks at the Bristol Royal Infirmary’s A900 ward.

Cherraline, talks about her time in hospital:

“I honestly can’t thank everyone at the Bristol Royal Infirmary enough.

“I’m a long-term patient, so know Ward A900 well as it’s where I’d usually be treated. However, being there as a coronavirus patient gave me even more appreciation for the work they do. The staff made me feel so safe.

“When I was able to go home and they all started clapping me as I left the ward, it was just amazing!

“Everyone I saw while I was in hospital – the consultants, the nurses, the ward clerks and the housekeepers – were absolutely brilliant. The care I received from everyone was incredible.”

Carolyn Mills, chief nurse at UHBW, said:

“It’s so uplifting to hear these stories of patients with COVID-19 who have been successfully treated and are able to return home.

“We know that this is sadly not the case for everyone, so it gives our staff a real reason to applaud when patients are able to leave our care.

“My thoughts are with all COVID-19 patients and their loved ones, and I hope we can continue to celebrate more and more of these recoveries as time goes on.”
