Your Total Guide To eating and drinking
Five great Bristol bars for non-alcoholic beer
Bristol is a real hotbed for great beer, from the many pubs throughout the city to the craft beer breweries and taprooms that have become equally as popular. Many would describe it as a great pub city.
That’s all well and good for the drinkers of this world. But what about those that have given up alcohol? Those that have been through an alcohol detox or perhaps have preferred to stay off the hard stuff and have always sought out the alcohol free options?
Given the rise of the alcohol free market, it’s perhaps no surprise to see that many of Bristol’s great pubs and bars have adapted too, so if you’re looking for a sober night out or a place where you can enjoy being the designated driver with a wealth of options outside of the usual Heineken 0.0% or Becks Blue in the fridges, then here are five great Bristol bars for non-alcoholic beer…
Wiper & True Taproom
Of course, it makes sense to start with the taprooms and we’re kicking off with Wiper & True. The brand have two excellent non-alcoholic beers in their taprooms, including Kaleidoscope, a 0.5% take on their flagship pale ale, as well as Tomorrow, a lager that puts some of the bigger brands non-alcoholic offerings to shame.
Wiper & True have two taprooms across the city, The Taproom at Old Market and The Barrel Store in St Werberghs, both offering a relaxed and casual vibe, perfect for a pint.
Left Handed Giant
Left Handed Giant also have a couple of premises across the city, where they have a range of alcohol free options. Their own AF pale is called Run Free and is a zesty number that is incredibly refreshing, while they also have offerings from other breweries.
The Brewpub in the heart of the city is a great bar with plenty of space and a relaxed atmosphere. It has a rotating set of beers on draft, sometimes including alcohol free, as well as plenty in the fridges for those non-drinkers.
The Strawberry Thief
A specialist in Belgian beer, The Strawberry Thief really is like taking a step onto the continent, with it feeling more like you’re in Brussels than Bristol.
As well as plenty of local craft beers there’s naturally a focus on Belgian beers. However, more and more of an emphasis is also being put on low and no alcohol craft beers, with a growing range that is really exciting for the non-drinker. It’s well worth a look in.
The Barley Mow
Owned by the Bristol Beer Factory, The Barley Mow has long been a popular haunt for drinkers and non drinkers alike and prides itself on being a proper pub selling proper beer. That includes alcohol free options.
It’s your traditional pub experience and you really can’t go wrong here. Located in the Stokes Croft neighbourhood, it’s nice and cosy, as well as having some top notch pub grub on offer too.
The Good Measure
Finally, The Good Measure is another craft beer stop that is a hidden gem in the Redland part of town. It has a carefully curated selection of beers, including in its 0% offering, so whether you’re in the mood for a crisp lager, a hoppy pale or a slightly tart sour, there will be something for you.
It’s laid back and the staff are always ready to help you find the right non-alcoholic beer for you, so even as a designated driver, you’re never going to miss out.
