Novel Wines: February's Wine of the Month 2019

Total Guide to February's Wine of the Month… Kardos Dry Furmint 2017, Hungary

February is the perfect month to fall in love with Furmint. The guys from Novel Wines kicked-off the month of “Furmint February” at 67 Pall Mall in London. Already infamous for sharing deliciously-unique wines, Ben and Gyorgy loved showing off this classic Hungarian variety to hundreds of wine lovers.

If you’re new to Furmint, imagine Riesling-meets-Chardonnay. There’s a breadth of variety but always a hallmark acidity that keeps the wines fresh and gluggable. Our favourite for getting you into the world of Furmint is by exceptional Tokaji winemaker Gabor Kardos.

Kardos Dry Furmint is made from fruit that’s been picked from 20 year-old vines in the south-facing Arany Sajgo vineyard. The volcanic soils here lengthen the ripening period, meaning the grapes are fruitier and have an electric acidity. Once fermented the wine is aged for 3 months and then bottled, bursting with zingy gooseberries, pear and lime.
