Update issued on historic 200-year-old Bristol pub after five years of closure

After five years of closure, the historic Cross Hands pub in Bristol, which has stood for two centuries, has finally provided an update on its much-anticipated reopening.

Located at the crossroads of Bedminster Down Road and Bishopsworth Road, this pub first opened its doors in 1824 as a coaching inn. However, it was forced to shut down in 2019 under the ownership of Greene King.

In 2023, there was a glimmer of hope for the beloved establishment when it was revealed that the Bedminster-based Wring Group had purchased the site and secured permission from Bristol City Council to revive the pub and add four bed and breakfast rooms. However, as the refurbishment work came to an unexpected halt, locals were left wondering if the pub’s future was in jeopardy.

This week, the Wring Group broke the silence, reassuring the community through a Facebook post that work on the Cross Hands will resume soon. While the wait has been long, it seems that Bedminster Down residents may finally see their historic pub brought back to life.
