The announcement comes a year after the closure of Cabot Circus’s Showcase Cinema de Lux, which had been the city’s largest multiplex with 14 screens.
The closure in 2023 left a significant gap in Bristol’s cinema landscape. At the time, Hammerson expressed its commitment to reinstating a large cinema as part of the shopping centre’s attractions.
The new Odeon complex will occupy a 53,000-square-foot site within Cabot Circus, partially using the space previously held by Showcase. Details about the number of screens have not yet been released, but the venue promises a state-of-the-art cinematic experience.
Earlier this year, Hammerson conducted a survey that identified a new cinema as the most requested leisure facility by visitors to Cabot Circus.
This feedback played a key role in securing Odeon as the latest addition to the centre.
The cinema is part of a broader strategy by Hammerson to revitalise the shopping centre with new brands and experiences.
Odeon will be the tenth new occupier at Cabot Circus this year, joining recent additions such as King Pins Bowl, which will open a 16,500-square-foot gaming venue in 2025, and Treetop Golf, an immersive golfing experience set to launch in December 2024.
An official opening date for the Odeon has not yet been announced.
