TGtB Meets...Union J

Union J sat down with Dan Flay to talk The X Factor, new music and plans to crack America.

Are you guys looking forward to tonight's performance?

JJ: We couldn't be more excited to back in George's home town.

George: There's a little bit of added pressure being back home but the feeling of performing live is one thing that will never die for us. I don't think anything can beat the excitement and butterflies that we feel before we go on stage.

Josh: Performing is what we love to do. I have to admit though, we are a little bit superstitious before we sing live. The pre-show hug has definitely become a Union J tradition.

How are you guys planning on spending Christmas this year?

George: We're all spending Christmas with our families and then jetting off to the Caribbean together on Boxing Day.

Jaymi: You'd have thought we would have been sick of each other by now, but we actually really miss each other when we're not altogether.

JJ: It's great to spend time with the family, where we're working so much and on the road all of the time, it's nice to take a step back and just chill.

Your new album “You Got It All” comes out soon? What can fans expect?

JJ: This album is more us, we've written about 50% of the material and it's got a more mature sound and feel to it. This time around we didn't want to just focus on our younger fans and tried to create an album that could appeal to everyone. There's plenty of classic Union J ballads and up-beat pop tracks too.

George: We've always loved singing ballads since The X Factor, and that's what we've focused on for this album, it's almost like we've gone back to our roots.

We've heard you’ve recorded a track with The Vamps, tell us more!

Jaymi: The Vamps feature on our new single "You Got It All" - when we heard the news that the boys had recorded some vocals for the track we were so excited, we're massive fans of their’s and they've worked with some incredible people like Demi Lovato and Pixie Lott.

Josh: We're also going on tour with the boys next year which will be fun, we've performed at gigs with them before, so we're all good mates - I think it's going to be a great show.

JJ: McBusted are having a whale of a time together, so watch this space for a UnionVamps super band!

Will you guys be performing on this year’s X Factor?

Josh: That's the dream. Nothings confirmed yet but we'd love to perform on the show again.

Have you guys been watching this year's show? Do you have a favourite act?

George: I love Only The Young, I think they're wicked and they get better every single week. There hasn't been a successful British mixed group since Steps, so there's definitely a place for them in the industry.

JJ: Mel is killing it this year, she's my favourite judge.

Jaymi: I miss Mrs O, she's everything!

Lots of British bands have had success over the pond of late, do you have any plans to crack America?

George: Yeah definitely, we've been over in America writing and recording this year, so we can't wait to go back over in 2015 and gig.
