The underground dance venue in Bristol no one knows about

Every day, thousands of people pass over a vast hidden space in the heart of Bristol without knowing it exists.

Now, a local creative group is transforming the delivery warehouse beneath The Galleries shopping centre into a new hotspot for dance music lovers.

“We believe it’s the largest underground venue in the UK,” said Tom Hodgson, Director of The Underground. He hopes this initiative will inspire a revival of struggling high streets across the country by offering new attractions.

Hodgson first pitched the idea to The Galleries around seven years ago, proposing to turn the Broadmead loading bay into an underground venue. “It took two years and many discussions to convince them it was a good plan,” he explained.

Five years later, the venue has lined up 10 events scheduled between now and the New Year, featuring well-known DJs such as Ben Hemsley and the electronic duo Gorgon City.
