BRISTOL REVEALED AS THE FOURTH MOST HUNGOVER CITY IN THE UK

Let’s be honest – we’ve all had one of those mornings. The kind where you wake up regretting that last pint, desperately Googling ‘hangover cures that actually work’ while questioning every life choice.

Well, turns out some cities in the UK are way more prone to struggling with the morning after the night before than others.

Alcohol-free beer brand Mash Gang has crunched the numbers, analysing over 5.5 million Google searches across every city to uncover where people are searching for hangover cures the most. And the results? Let’s just say some cities might want to start stocking up on paracetamol and bacon sandwiches…

Bristol has officially been named the fourth most hungover city in the UK. Whether it’s the legendary King Street bar crawls or the city’s love for a good night out, Bristolians are amongst the top four cities waking up with sore heads more than anywhere else in the country.

Here’s the full top 10:

1.       Birmingham – The undisputed hangover capital

2.       Manchester – No surprise here, with its world-famous nightlife

3.       Liverpool – The Scousers love a bevvy

4.       Bristol – A city of craft beer lovers feeling the next-day regret

5.       Leeds – No stranger to a messy Otley Run

6.       Newcastle – Geordies go hard on the toon

7.       Sheffield – The Steel City clearly loves a big night out

8.       Plymouth – Coastal partying = coastal hangovers

9.       Coventry – Feeling rough after too many at the Kasbah? You’re not alone

10.  Wolverhampton – Big nights, even bigger next-day regrets

Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale, Ripon has emerged as England’s least hungover city, followed by Carlisle – meaning if you’re looking for a place to escape temptation (or just find people who actually get up early on weekends), you know where to go.

Despite more people than ever cutting down on booze – with one in three UK adults now actively reducing their alcohol intake[1] – hangovers are still alive and kicking. The reality is, Brits love a drink, but waking up feeling like a shell of a human? Not so much.

“From years of touring band experience, I've been hungover in many cities, and I'm not surprised to see most of the places I've had the best nights out on the list, and rotten mornings after,” said Mike Baggs, one of the founders of Mash Gang.

“Special shout out to Wolverhampton, where I signed my first record deal and then spent most of the night with a pint in each hand as it was a third of the price we paid in Brighton. Behaviours like zebra striping are really cutting back on hangovers in 2025, and non-alcoholic beer is helping people have less miserable days after the night before, which is a massive positive for almost everyone.”

The data also shows just how much people are looking for solutions. In the past month, there have been 178,000 searches for “hair of the dog,” and the search term “hangover food” has been looked up 72,000 times in the same period.

Additionally, searches for ‘zebra striping,’ a method where people alternate alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to lessen the impact of drinking, have increased by 424% in the past quarter, indicating that more people are adopting smarter drinking habits.

Mash Gang offers an alternative to those looking to enjoy the social aspects of drinking without the unwanted after-effects. Whether for a big night out, a casual drink, or simply a refreshing beer without the impact of alcohol, Mash Gang’s brews provide a perfect solution.
