5 Signs That Humanity is Getting Closer to Metaverse Culture

The Metaverse. Like it or loathe it, it’s a concept that’s here to stay. And while it is currently at the point where it still feels like a sci-fi concept, we’re actually far closer to it than you may think! More of the groundwork for the metaverse is already here than you may think- and here’s 5 common scenarios that prove it. Let’s take a look.

Evolving Digital Identity

The pandemic accelerated digital change, but we were already deep into the digital revolution before that. The metaverse is rich in the idea that we can represent ourselves how we choose through digital avatars.

Sound familiar? That’s because we’re already used to the concept. From fully customizable video game characters, to fun avatars used on social media, we already use digital spaces to showcase ourselves as we want to be, sometimes quite apart from reality. Even filters promote the idea of being who you want online.

Online Shopping

Not only has online shopping become the norm, but we’ve also moved away from the idea of getting tangible goods for our cash. We now buy games, music, movies, e-books, software, and more online. You might enjoy online slot games, or you may relax with a great MMO. Maybe you spend Christmas working out where to buy the perfect christmas gift- or ordering them online. It doesn’t matter what you love. Digital shopping and living are here to stay.

The metaverse represents the next evolution in the idea of digital products- think of a fully immersive VR video game or movie. Or even luxury homes created digitally. Again, the metaverse is closer than you think.

Digital Friendships- and More

From looking for love, to simply looking for a buddy to game with, finding online communities of people who think like you and share your interests is now a mainstream part of society. Once you were ‘odd’ if all your friends were online. Now we make friends across borders, and fire up dating apps to find the perfect person. Distance and even countries are no longer a problem in friendships or relationships.

All the metaverse will change there is creating a more realistic ‘life’ experience in our digital relationships. Of course, there’s some concern here- will our data be safe? Who can impinge on our privacy? But these are already evolving questions we ask ourselves in digital spaces.

Education- No Longer Brick and Mortar

Another innovation from the pandemic has been the boom in online and fully remote education. From upskilling to basic education, online spaces are now a norm for education. All that’s lacking for most people is simulating a more authentic in-person learning environment. Guess what tech is ready to shake that up? Yup, the metaverse.

AR Boosted Shopping and Experiences

Returning to retail for a moment, we’re already seeing AR, or augmented reality, help to combine the benefits of shopping online and offline. Imagine being able to check the fit of a garment before you buy, or trial that new couch in your very own living room before you haul it up the stairs. It’s a logical evolution in how we like to interact- and it will only evolve further under metaverse principals. Just take a look at this fantastic online Van Gogh immersive experience.

While no one yet knows for sure how the metaverse will come into reality, with a ton of ideas and little cohesion currently, we’re already priming ourselves for a full-service, immersive online and digital environment. The metaverse may be closer than you think!
