The Love of Movement

Is there any greater feeling than moving your body to music? It’s a feeling that many people have lost this year, with post lockdown events being strictly dancing free. Thankfully there are other options than just having to do the solo shuffle round your kitchen.

For The Love Of Movement is exactly what you’ve been missing. Online fitness and yoga classes driven by fun, music, and self acceptance, it’s for everyone who loves to move and to feel damn good doing it. FTLOM was started by Kate Kieran, a teacher based in Bristol UK during the first lockdown in March. Previous to this, Kate was an established events manager for multiple festivals but after all of her production work in events such as Glastonbury Festival and Boomtown came crashing down with Covid 19 safety measures and she was forced to find new ways to adapt and survive and ultimately thrive.

Kate had been teaching a number of different classes part time since leaving a 10 year career with some of the UK’s leading circuses, but decided to make it a full time project as she moved all of them online and really focussed on creating a community online for all those stuck at home to get up and get moving. She is a big fan of self-love, self-care and inner wellbeing, as she says on her website “You are bloody fantastic and I want you to know it.” Kate’s classes steer  away from diet culture narrative and towards a feeling of empowerment for all bodies. Her message is clear, “All bodies are bodies that love movement. All bodies want to feel good and sexy and loved.”

There are various classes that For The Love Of Movement offer throughout the week: there’s ‘FitBit*h’ on Tuesday mornings, a full body 30 min Hiit style workout.  Absolutely the best way to start your day; a revitalising Vinyasa Flow Yoga class on Wednesdays, which is tough but accessible; Kate’s signature class that she founded four years ago is  ‘Bristol Drum N Bass Workout’ every Thursday evening, a high impact choreographed class for all abilities.Think, all the fun of clubbing without the 5 day hangover!  You may have also caught Kate performing Bristol Drum n Bass Workout at a number of British festivals including Shambala, Big Love and is a regular on Friday mornings at Boomtown.  On both Tuesdays and Fridays Kate teaches  Barre, a combination class of pilates and ballet technique which is low impact so suitable for all body types and fitness levels. You are guaranteed to feel the burn with this one but Tuesdays have an extra special element over the next couple of months as they are dedicated to the divas, with each class focussed on one of the most fabulous women in song.

Open to anyone around the world, come and join Kate at For The Love Of Movement, classes are between £3 and £5 and you can find more info along with the full schedule and booking form at fortheloveofmovement.co.uk - Personal sessions are also available.
