AWARD WIN FOR COMPANY PIONEERING THE CONCEPT OF ‘ENERGY EFFICIENCY AS A SERVICE’

SOUTH WEST company SMARTech energy has won a sustainability award for its work in educating larger businesses and organisations about how to become more energy efficient.

The team, which has its HQ in Chippenham, Wiltshire, has won the Leeds Sustainability Institute's RISE Award for Enterprise for its work around ‘Energy Efficiency as a Service’ (EEaas). 

The team use their technical and engineering knowledge to help organisations and larger businesses to use energy smartly, especially important at a time when energy costs are volatile and there is a stronger drive towards achieving net zero in business. 

Companies partner with the SMARTech energy team for a number of years so that energy use is constantly monitored across their site or sites with changes made to be as energy efficient as possible.

The RISE Awards, which are organised by the Centre for Knowledge Exchange on behalf of the Leeds Sustainability Institute (LSI) and in partnership with The University of West of England (UWE) Bristol and the University of Suffolk, were established in 2015 and recognise case studies from the Built Environment which share best practice in research, innovation, sustainability and enterprise (RISE).

The energy management and reduction model offered by SMARTech energy can also, for some companies, remove financial barriers associated with high-cost energy reduction plans. The team illustrated the work they’d already done with the University Technical College in Swindon, Wiltshire. 

Stuart said: ‘We’ve helped the UTC Swindon save more than 40% which equates to more than £200,000 in energy costs over the period of the contract and more than 200 tonnes in carbon savings.  We are delighted by these results and further contracts have now been secured across other sites; positively and proactively making change to improve energy savings.
