Men's Spring/Summer Fashion '14
If London Collections: Menswear taught us anything, it's that the bomber jacket is sticking around, pink is the new black, floral prints are popping up all the over the place, and sportswear is getting chic.
Here’s our top fashion trends for SS14:
Sportswear Isn't Just for Working Out
With the Sochi Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and the World Cup all taking place over the next 12 months sports-inspired clothing has been dominating the runways of late. Thanks to leading menswear designers including Bobby Abley and SNCL the humble sweatpant has been transformed from an average piece of gym kit into an everyday wardrobe essential. The aim of this trend is to blend premium, or luxury, inspired sportswear with classic items of clothing. Think varsity jackets with jeans or floral sweatpants worn with pastel knitwear.
Flower Power
Are you man enough to take on florals this spring? One of the biggest trends over the coming months is set to be fluorescents, florals and altogether more vibrant colours. Menswear collections have slowly been embracing colour and edgier patterns over the past few years but this season the high street has taken this trend to a whole new level. The best way to wear this look is to subtly integrate splashes of floral into your wardrobe as the weather begins to heat up.
Stripes
Horizontal, vertical and diagonal, colour-blocked patterns are a fantastic laid-back, preppy look for spring. Givenchy and Moschino have effortlessly incorporated block stripes into their designs, so it's no surprise that stripes are set to be a menswear staple over the coming seasons. Look out for bold colours with thick banded prints to create a new modern look.
We Only Wear Pink on Wednesdays
Pink is indisputably the new black. Each season a major new colour trend works its way onto the high fashion runways of Paris and Milan and subsequent high street stores. This season it's pink and we're not just talking about one particular shade either, every tone possible has been spotted on runways across the globe. Remember, real men wear pink, so don't be afraid to work it into all aspects of your outfit - lavender striped shoes or salmon coloured shorts are subtle yet sophisticated ways to channel this trend without looking like Ken.
