Let's Talk
International Cricket Returns to Bristol in 2022
The County Ground in Bristol will host its first men’s T20 international for four years when the touring South Africans arrive next July. This will be the first game in a fast-paced series as the visitors look to pack in three fixtures in just five days.
It’s all part of a great summer of action with the domestic T20 Blast returning along with all of Gloucestershire’s regular red ball games.
A Packed Schedule
England and South Africa will play three T20 internationals, the first of which goes off in Bristol on Wednesday July 27th. Just one day later, the teams will make the short trip to Wales for the second match which will take place at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens.
The mini-series will then conclude with the final T20i at the Ageas Bowl on Sunday July 31st. The initial ticket ballot is now closed and tickets are currently available on general sale. It promises to be an entertaining series featuring two of the best white ball teams in the game but who will come out on top?
Tourists’ Profiled
South Africa couldn’t quite make it past the group stages of the recent T20 World Cup but the side came agonizingly close to a semifinal place. They are currently led by Temba Bavuma and, after a period of instability, he looks certain to skipper the side into 2022 and beyond.
The tourists will have some explosive hitters in their line up including their former captain Quinton De Kock. The left hander also keeps wicket and is one of the most highly sought after players among global T20 franchises.
Another left hander, David Miller, can score quickly down the order while skipper Bavuma and Rassie Van Der Dussen offer some balance with their patient accumulation.
The bowling unit will consist of an effective mix of pace and spin. Kagiso Rabada is a hostile opening speed merchant and he will be matched in the pace department by teammate Anrich Nortje. The slow bowling will be provided by the mystery spin of Tabraiz Shamsi and the more orthodox Keshav Maharaj.
A Closely Matched Series?
South Africa will arrive with a competitive squad but hosts England are certain to start as favourites to win this three-match series. A few weeks before the first game in Bristol, cricket markets will open and Eoin Morgan’s England will head the outright betting.
Odds are supplied via the sbo.net website and they will continue to update the markets as the series progresses. Along with those changes, they will keep readers informed by publishing news and opinion articles relating to the cricketing world.
Those details could help visitors to make an informed decision on the matches and, if they want to put that knowledge to use, they can register with any of the panel of recommended sportsbooks.
Registration is open at any of those sites and there are welcome packages in most places. Once onboard, ongoing promotions, a selection of deposit and withdrawal methods plus efficient customer service can also be found.
Sbo.net provide that one-stop shop for cricket followers and there’s much to enjoy across the English season.
Bristol’s Cricketing Summer
Fixtures for the 2022 domestic cricket season have yet to be confirmed but, once again, Gloucestershire will be playing the majority of their fixtures at the County Ground in Bristol. The County Championship will return to its regular, two-division format and the campaign is set to get underway in early April.
Hosting duties will briefly switch to Cheltenham which hosts its annual cricket festival in early July.
Gloucester are also set to occupy Bristol when the T20 Blast arrives in the middle of the summer. With The Hundred having been introduced for the first time last year, the Royal London One Day Cup remains as a development competition. That has the potential to take some matches to some of Gloucestershire’s out grounds but Bristol had the monopoly on the RLODC in 2021.
Once the schedules are announced, tickets will be available via the county’s official website. With a T20 international between England and South Africa as the highlight, there’s going to be a feast of top class cricket in Bristol in 2022.
