Brandon Trust Launches First Pop Up Charity Market For Bristol

Learning disability charity Brandon Trust is to launch the Bristol's first Pop Up Charity Market, with volunteers from law firm Burges Salmon.

During the course of one week (Monday, 29 September–Thursday, 2 October), almost 100 staff from Burges Salmon will volunteer alongside people with learning disabilities as they team up to help create and build various products at Brandon Trust-run enterprise workshops in the area.

Then, just for one day, on Friday, 3 October, Brandon Trust will sell at Cabot Circus shopping centre's pop-up market what it has created throughout the week. The money collected will be invested back into the Brandon Trust enterprises where the products were first produced.

Enterprises involved include Scotch Horn, in Nailsea, Banwell Pottery and @Worle Cafe, in Worle, Elm Tree Farm nursery and Splinters workshop in Stapleton, Bristol, and Fired Up ceramics studio in Pucklechurch, South Gloucestershire.

Trevor Reid, Brandon Trust director of fundraising and marketing said: “We are always keen to engage with the business community and offer volunteer opportunities like this. This project gives the volunteers valuable experience of working alongside someone with a learning disability and vice versa.

“It is also an opportunity to showcase the fantastic work and products people we support produce at our enterprise workshops from Banwell Pottery in Worle to Elm Tree Farm in Stapleton. All the money raised by Brandon Trust will go back into the enterprises.”

Burges Salmon director of operations and best practice, Emma Dowden, is leading the team of volunteers for this project.  She said: “Volunteering forms an important part of our wider corporate and social responsibility programme. Everyone at the firm is entitled to one day’s paid annual leave each year to carry out a volunteering activity of their choice.  In addition to this, we also undertake team building volunteering exercises as part of our wider learning and development programme.

“We regularly undertake volunteering work for Brandon Trust, which is one of the firm's longest-standing CR partners, and we hope that this latest project will further strengthen this relationship and also set a benchmark for other teams within the firm to use as a potential volunteering model moving forward.”
